missions, history and current projects

1. Promote the concept of the Chesapeake region
We will create a compelling image of this region. We will work to persuade people and businesses that they are part of this region and that they can benefit from greater regional cooperation in planning for the future and in taking action to create it. We will work to awaken a regional spirit.

2. Forge a shared vision for the region's future
We will help create a vision for the region that is more manageable, sustainable, habitable, accessible, equitable, beautiful, and competitive - a region that because of comprehensive, regional-scale planning provides more opportunities for its citizens to attain personal and communal fulfillment.

Our vision will encompass:

  • Economic vitality

  • The environment

  • Quality of life

  • Land use patterns

  • Transportation

  • Education

  • Health care

  • Public safety

  • Housing

  • Agriculture
Any other issues arising that might affect our region.
We will encourage planning bodies throughout the region to incorporate the vision into their plans and other groups to use it to guide action in their own areas of concern.

3. Foster stronger regional relationships and greater cooperation
We will assist groups throughout the region to identify and select mechanisms for collaboration and to form useful coalitions of interest. We will help them address critical regional issues and influence the way in which decisions are made.

4. Provide a forum and clearing house for regional discussions
We will provide a forum where the region's diverse groups and communities can discover and explore their shared interests and plan for their common futures.

5. Act as a resource for groups and individuals who are working towards a better regional future.
We will sponsor educational seminars, provide educational information, resources, and advice to concerned citizens, civic and professional groups, business organizations, public planning bodies, elected officials, and others throughout the region.
